A Sunday market built around good food, independent makers, beautiful surroundings and the people who make a Sunday worth slowing down for.

The Story

Some things come together because they make sense.

Others come together because they simply belong together.

Kindred began at Timour Hall Villa, on a beautiful warm late spring day, around a table shared between Candor Market and Down to Earth Market. We came together to talk about what we might create side by side, but somewhere between the conversation, the coffee and the ideas, something became clear.

We were already speaking the same language.

About community. About good food and beautiful things. About meeting the people who make, grow, bake, sew and build the things we bring home. About creating a market that feels less like a place to shop and more like somewhere you want to spend your Sunday.

It felt less like bringing two markets together, and more like recognising something that had been there all along.

And then we started talking about our traders.

Names we both knew. People who had been part of both markets. Familiar faces moving between two communities that, without either of us quite realising it, had already begun to overlap.

Candor brings the world around it — slow fashion, secondhand finds, considered objects and makers with stories to tell.

Together, there is room for more.

And perhaps most importantly, a bigger table to gather around.

The Setting

Why Timour Hall Villa?

There are places that seem to carry their own sense of occasion. Timour Hall Villa is one of them.

Set among the old trees and gardens of Constantia, the estate has a history that reaches back well beyond the market, and a character that is difficult to recreate anywhere else.

There is something about arriving here — the old architecture, the greenery, the dappled light, the feeling of stepping slightly out of the everyday — that makes Kindred feel different.

The oak trees have stood here for generations, long before any of us began gathering beneath them. They give the estate a sense of permanence, while the market brings something new into the space each time we arrive.

We wanted Kindred to have a setting with a story of its own.

Who’s Behind It?

It takes a village.

Kindred is run by six core team members, each bringing a different strength to the table. Between us, we cover the big picture and the tiny details — from curation and creative direction to logistics, operations and making sure everything runs to plan, within the best of our ability.

But six people alone cannot run a market.

Expect a considered mix of local makers, slow fashion, secondhand, beautiful objects and real food worth coming hungry for. Expect familiar faces alongside something new to discover. Expect music, conversation, dogs on leads, children running about and a very good coffee.
